Application Requirements
Studying abroad is a major aspiration for many students. In recent years, China has become an increasingly popular destination for international students due to the availability of diverse and attractive scholarship opportunities. Recent studies indicate that this trend is expected to continue, as China offers world-class education at a significantly lower cost compared to many other countries where tuition and living expenses are considerably higher.Although applying to a Chinese university may seem challenging, the application process becomes straightforward once the requirements are clearly understood. Below is a detailed outline of the documents required to apply for degree programs in China.Required Application Documents(Sample Documents can be provided upon request)Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

• English language proficiency certificate
• HSK (Chinese language proficiency) certificate, if available
• Two recommendation letters (for Master’s and PhD programs, depending on university requirements)

If you do not currently have one, it should be obtained from your home country as soon as possible. If your passport has expired, it must be renewed before proceeding with the visa application process.Step 2: Passport-Size PhotographA recent passport-size photograph (50mm × 40mm) with a plain white or off-white background is required. The photo must be clear, taken within the last six months, and show the applicant’s full face without filters or accessories such as glasses.Step 3: Academic Transcripts and Certificates (Notarized Copies)Applicants must submit notarized copies of their academic transcripts and certificates relevant to the degree level applied for. All documents must be in English or Chinese and notarized by an authorized government body.Step 4: Curriculum Vitae (CV) / RésuméA well-structured CV outlining academic background, research experience, publications (if any), extracurricular activities, and relevant achievements is required.Step 5: Physical Examination (Medical Report)Applicants must complete the Foreigner Physical Examination Form at a recognized medical facility. The form must bear the doctor’s signature and the hospital’s official stamp. Original documents must be presented upon arrival in China.Step 6: Police Clearance CertificateA valid police clearance (non-criminal record) certificate issued by an authorized authority is required. This document is typically valid for six months from the date of issuance.Step 7: Bank Statement (Self-Funded Students Only)Self-funded applicants must provide recent bank statements as proof of financial capability.Bank StatementA bank statement is required for international travel, including study applications. Students must provide proof of financial capability when applying to study in China. Financial sponsorship may be provided by parents or any other eligible sponsor.Step 8: English Proficiency CertificateApplicants are required to demonstrate English language proficiency. While IELTS or TOEFL scores are not mandatory, they are strongly recommended. Alternatively, applicants may submit an official certificate from their previous institution confirming English as the Medium of Instruction (MOI).Accepted English proficiency documents include:
• IELTS: Minimum overall score of 6.0
• TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 80
• Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 90
• Official English Proficiency Certificate: Signed and stamped confirmation from the institution
• Medium of Instruction (MOI) CertificateNote: Applicants whose first language is English are exempt from this requirement.
Step 9: HSK Certificate (If Available)Applicants seeking admission to Chinese-taught programs or applying for the CSC Scholarship must submit an HSK certificate to demonstrate Chinese language proficiency. While not required for English-taught programs, an HSK certificate may strengthen the application.Step 10: Recommendation Letters (Master’s/PhD)Master’s and PhD applicants must submit two recommendation letters from a Professor or Associate Professor. The letters should assess the applicant’s academic abilities, character, and suitability for the chosen program, and must include the referee’s official email address and contact information.Step 11: Study Plan / Research Proposal (Master’s/PhD)Applicants to Master’s or PhD programs must submit a detailed study plan or research proposal (minimum 800 words) in English or Chinese. The document should clearly outline academic objectives, research interests, and future study plans.Step 12: Study Gap Certificate (If Applicable)Applicants with a gap in their academic history may be required to submit a study gap certificate explaining the reason for the break. This document must be prepared on official non-judicial stamp paper and notarized.Step 13: Application FormApplicants must complete the application form accurately in English or Chinese, ensuring all required fields are correctly filled.
